The journey from a napkin joke to the shirt on your back, explained step by step.

Every Quirktee shirt starts as a joke scribbled on a napkin. Before it reaches your doorstep, that joke survives a gauntlet of laughter tests, original artwork, and a made-to-order print process in the USA. Here is the full behind-the-scenes story.

How does a joke become a Quirktee design?

It begins with a spark. A meme your group chat will not stop quoting. A Christmas one-liner your uncle repeats every year. A family inside joke that deserves better than a phone screen.

Our designers capture the joke in its rawest form — usually a napkin, sometimes a voice memo, once a parking ticket (long story). Then comes the first filter.

What is the "would a stranger laugh at this" panel?

This is the most brutal step in our process. Every joke is tested on real humans who have never seen it before. Not friends. Not family. Strangers.

The rule is simple: if a stranger does not laugh within seconds, the joke dies. No second chances, no "maybe it grows on you." Humor either lands instantly or it does not belong on a shirt.

Roughly half of our napkin ideas fail this test. We are fine with that. A weak joke makes a shirt nobody wears twice.

How is the artwork created?

Once a joke passes the panel, our artists redraw it from scratch. Every design is 100% original — no clip-art, no stolen memes, no trademarked characters.

Our illustrators draft the layout, test the text size against real chest measurements, and run a strict quality check. The design must cover a generous portion of the chest — big, bold, readable from across the room.

We also run a trademark check on every slogan before it goes near a printer. If a phrase is even close to a registered mark, we drop it.

What does "printed to order" actually mean?

It means your shirt does not exist until you order it. There is no warehouse, no pallets of pre-printed shirts, no overproduction.

When you check out, the order goes straight to one of our American print partners. They print your design with direct-to-garment (DTG) or screen-print methods, cure the ink, quality-check the garment, and ship it to you.

The whole process typically takes 2–7 business days before shipping. It is slower than pulling a shirt off a warehouse shelf. We think it is worth it.

Why not just print thousands in advance?

Three reasons.

First, waste. The fashion industry throws away millions of unsold garments every year. We print exactly what customers order. Nothing more.

Second, freshness. Trends move fast. Printing to order means our catalog always reflects this week's jokes, not last year's inventory.

Third, quality. Every single shirt is inspected before it ships. When you print one shirt at a time, you can actually look at it.

What fabric do we print on?

Our signature tee is the Bella + Canvas 3001C — 4.2 ounces of 100% Airlume combed and ring-spun cotton. Translation: soft, light, and built to survive 50+ washes without losing its shape or its joke.

We also print on cozy sweatshirts, hoodies, and our all-over-print collection for customers who want the joke on every square inch.

What happens between the printer and your mailbox?

Quality control. Every printed shirt is inspected by hand before it ships. The print team checks the ink cure, the placement of the design on the chest, and the garment itself for flaws.

Only after passing that check does the shirt get folded, packed, and handed to the carrier. It is a slow, deliberate process — the opposite of fast fashion.

This hands-on step is one reason our customers trust the brand. When a shirt is made one at a time, somebody actually looks at it.

How much does it cost, and what do you get?

| Item | Detail | |---|---| | Graphic tees | From $24.99 (sizes XS–3XL, 5 colors) | | Sweatshirts | From $29.99 | | Hoodies | From $34.99 | | Print method | DTG / screen print, printed to order in the USA | | Production time | 2–7 business days | | Shipping | Free US shipping on orders over $50 | | Designs | 475+ original designs, new jokes added daily |

Why does any of this matter?

Because a funny shirt is not really about the shirt. It is about the moment it creates. The stranger who laughs at the grocery store. The family photo where everyone wears the same joke. The gift that actually gets worn.

We just make sure the joke is good, the art is original, and the cotton is soft enough to deserve it. That is the whole business model. Laughs first, logistics second, landfill never.
